Indian Classical Music (Private Tuition)
Enjoy learning intricate, beautiful woven melodies, enticing rhythmic patterns, and tantalizing sounds of ancient Indian Classical modes of music, written by renowned Indian Classical Performer, Composer/ Teacher - Chandrakant Kapileshwari - 'Mana Mohan' .
Modernized teaching methods to enhance the learning process taught by Yoga and Meditation Instructor - Madalsa, who leads the classes with a calm and spontaneous approach, highlighting the beauty of the meanings of the pieces, encouraging Western or English speaking adult students to sing in Hindi (transliterations and translations included), while focusing on voice culturing, and a greater understanding of the depth of this music.
Keyboards will be used for the teaching process, and the use of supplementary electronic music boxes to aid practice are also encouraged, while some demonstrations will emphasize the beauty, and use of the rich tones of the live accompanying traditional instruments - harmonium, tanpoora and tabla.

This introductory course is designed specifically for the aspiring yoga student or musician wishing to discover and explore the depth and varied expressions of ‘Divine Love’ through the beauty of Indian music.
The
categories of Indian music we will study include Indian Classical & Semi-Classical music, Bhajans (devotional songs), Gita Shloks (scripture),
Stotrums (prayers) and Mantras (powerful sound/ word combinations). We
will be doing a lot of singing, leading to the development of confidence,
poise, and rich tonal qualites.
Divine
Expression course is lead by Rani Madalsa Shree - Canadian composer,
performer and teacher whose music resonates with the delight of Oneness. ‘Madalsa’
- as she is known to her friends & students throughout the world, performs
with keyboards, harmonium, tanpoora, guitar, tabla accompaniment, and a powerful
melodic voice, enchanting and inspiring audiences and students alike.
This four - week introductory course is divided into two segments.
Divine Expression - Indian Classical Music Appreciation & Participation introductory sessions will include:

Teaching, participation in, and learning a specific piece from one of the
categories of Indian music mentioned.
·
Handouts with Hindi - Dev Nagari Script. Transliterations and direct English
meanings will be provided.
·
A brief meditation will be conducted near the end of each session.
Meditation helps the assimilation of class material, allowing one to truly
benefit from the effect of this form of divine music.
Segment
No. 1 – Introduction, Understanding and Appreciating
·
Brief background of Indian music and how the various components can serve
to enhance one’s spiritual practice
·
Introduction and demonstration of Indian instruments – harmonium, tanpoora,
tabla and cymbals
·
Basic and easy to grasp presentations of some of the Indian Modal Scales (Ragas), the mood of the raga, and the time of day or season
in which it is meant to be played
·
Understanding the basics of Indian Rhythmic cycles (Taal)
·
Hands-on experience with Manjiras, small cymbals often used to enhance the
beat in Indian devotional music
Segment No. 2 – Hindi Notation, Voice Culturing and Participation
·
Acquiring and utilizing your skills with a user-friendly Hindi notation system
·
Voice culturing and the importance of ‘riyaaz’ (daily practice)
·
Participation in simple vocal exercises to develop rich tonal qualities and
depth of voice
·
Hand gestures, posture and proper breathing
·
Breaking the barriers of shyness
·
Engaging your audience
·
Tips for maintaining your enthusiasm for learning and sharing
